Differences between mink and human muscles

Although a mink has very similar muscles as humans have, there are also many differences between the two. For one, a mink has a couple more muscles that humans do not have. Both are similar mostly because of the types of muscles that humans and minks have. Minks have the same major types of muscles as humans do such as the biceps and triceps in the arms. They also have the abdominal muscles that we do.

physiology class

tags: http://www.aquariumofthepacific.org/

So right now in class we have learned about bones, joints, and now we are learning about muscles. We learned the muscle song. I'm pretty excited about our upcoming field trip to the aquarium of the pacific which is going to happen around late january or early february. I think it would be a great opportunity to have fun while learning about anatomy as well as taking a break from the same 6 period schedule every single day. We haven't done many dissections lately but I think we're going to do some interesting ones soon such as the minks and the heart.

what I learned from the muscles song

lyrics to the song: http://www.songsforteaching.com/scienceinsong/muscularsystem.htm

Yesterday we sung the muscles song and even though it was weird I learned that there are over 600 muscles in our body.  The 3 major kinds of muscles are skeletal, smooth, and cardiac.  Muscles attach to bones in the body.  The masseter is in your cheek and it helps you smile and talk.  The trapezius helps you attach your head and your shoulders because it is in the back of your head.  The sternomastoid helps you rotate your head.  Biceps are your arm muscles, I remember this because popeye flexed his biceps.  Deltoids are the muscles that lift your arms.  lattisimus dorsi is the back and gastrocnemius is the calf muscle.  The cardiac muscle is the heart muscle it helps the heart beat.

bone health

I have learned many things about bone health. I know that bones grow stronger from childhood to adulthood but they start to detiriorate as we grow even older such as middle age. When we are younger, when our bones break, they heal faster and become stronger than they were before being broken. Many factors affect bone growth and its health. A major factor that can help bones grow is calcium. It helps bones get stronger so they are not as fragile when we get old.

Form and Function

Form and function relates a lot to how bones work within the body. The bones in our body function as support and protection for muscles and organs. Bones also help by creating shape. The skeleton is the backbone for the muscles that form the shape of our bodies. They also have various functions other than to support. They are the place where blood is formed. Blood is one of the most essential and vital things in our body.

math in physiology

Many people think that life science has no correlation to mathematics but in actuality, subjects such as physiology and anatomy deal with math more than expected. I have had to personally use math in physiology when we looked at slides through microscopes and measured the organisms with a ruler. We had to convert the measurements from centimeters to millimeters. For classwork we have also done some assignments that require measuring angles of movements such as range of motion of the ankle. Then, we took the average of our degrees and put it in a average range of motion graph. There are many other examples of mathematical uses in life science such as the rate of something. Doctors may need to know someone's heart rate or rates of cell division. A lot of measuring is done in life science. Overall I think that there needs to be some knowledge of math in order to work in life science.

Bad smells can give you nightmares

This article was about how different smells result in positive or negative moods or whether a person will have a pleasant dream or a nightmare. I was surprised to learn that different smells can recall good or bad memories which can cause nightmares at night. Some scents can even trigger arousals in both men and women as well. This is because the nose can pick up over 10,000 scents at the same time. Maybe I will try sleeping with a nice scented candle in my room tonight.

cells and tissues

Cells are the basic organizational unit that make up all living things. It is the smallest form of unit that make up larger parts of the human body. Humans are multicellular which means that we are made up of countless cells whereas bacteria is unicellular because it is made up of only one single cell. There are many different types of cells such as eukaryotic cells and prokaryotic cells. Tissues are a group of cells that perform the same or similar function. It is the level of unit that are larger than cells but smaller than organs. There are also many different types of tissues such as connective tissues, muscle tissues, and neural tissues. Connective tissues hold together other organs. For example, bones are tissues that hold together and support other parts that make up a body structure. Muscle tissues make up the shape of a body. Neural tissues are tissues that relate to the brain and the nervous system. There are also other types of tissues that contribute in the functions of an organism.

A Physician's Assessment Of Depression Can Be Hampered By His Personality

This report discusses the topic of how the different personalities of physicians can affect their assessment of a patient's clinical depression symptoms as well as their treatment for this mental illness. According to their research, there are three characteristic categories that a physician can fall into: dutiful, vulnerable, and open. The dutiful physician is usually blunt about the diagnosis of clinical depression but brief in the questioning during the assesment part. This is due to their concern of ending an appointment on time rather than "extending an office visit". The vulnerable physician also acts in the same manner. Patients are shown to prefer physicians like these two because they are straight forward and that is the type of doctors most patients trust.

anatomy/physiology

My name is Jessica and I'm a junior at AHS. I've been on varsity tennis for 3 years now. Every year I say I'm gonna quit but I never do. I guess it's pretty fun though. My favorite color is purple. I actually decided to take physiology/anatomy randomly because I didn't know what science to take this year but i turned out liking the class and stayed. I've always liked doing dissections and learning about how the body works. I think it's pretty cool and I'm really excited to do some this year.
